Purposeful Home
The accidental expansion of my business.
I didn’t start Purposeful Home because I wanted another business. It was honestly a long slow accident that evolved over several years.
For a long time, my work has been words. Writing about intentional parenting. Speaking to families about slowing down. Helping people think carefully about what we bring into our homes and our lives. Meanwhile, at home I was slowing down by making a lot of our home products.
It started with sourdough, because of course it did. It became a game to me to see what else I could learn how to make instead of buy. Soap for my son with eczema. Candles as thoughtful, homemade gifts.
I ordered wax, a few jars, fragrance oils, and a bag of wicks. I poured my first batch at the kitchen counter while my kids wandered in and out asking questions and offering extremely confident opinions about which scents smelled the best.
The results weren’t perfect, but the process felt right and the game kept evolving.
Little things that make a home feel warm and lived in started littering every available open space in our kitchen, office, and laundry room. The kinds of things that are used in everyday moments, that require natural ingredients, and encourage us to slow down. Nothing fancy.
Just simple things that make a home feel good.
I was already supplying family and friends with their favorite soaps and candles, so I started laying some out on tables at events. People lingered longer at my table so they could smell or appreciate a simple candle while they asked about my books.
These projects were no longer just a fun experiment at home, they were a part of my brand, and I realized they had a name.
Purposeful Home.
Because that’s really what it’s about. Not perfection. Not aesthetics. Not filling your house with more stuff.
It’s about choosing the things in your home with care. Slowing down enough to notice the small details, like how good a natural bar of soap can feel on your hands. Creating an environment where your family can rest, gather, and breathe.
In many ways, Purposeful Home feels like the natural extension of everything I’ve been writing about for years.
If Let’s Choose Less is the philosophy,
Purposeful Home is the practice.
It’s the candles lit during family dinner.
The soap by the kitchen sink.
The quiet moment before bed when the house finally settles.
Purposeful Home is still small, and I’m learning as I go. But that feels fitting, because my goal isn’t to be the next Joanna Gaines (although that would be nice).
It’s to help families. To remind others that the most meaningful things in life start small, like a quiet idea, a simple experiment, a willingness to begin before everything is figured out. And sometimes those small beginnings grow into something beautiful.
If you’d like to support Purposeful Home
I’ve started listing a small collection of the candles, soaps, and other items I’ve been making in my shop.
Each one is still poured, mixed, wrapped, and labeled by hand (often with a kid or two helping).

And if you’ve been reading here for a while, thank you. Your encouragement along the way has meant more than you know.
