It's Been Quiet Over Here
Here I am.
It’s been a while since I’ve sat down to write here.
Not because I didn’t have anything to say, but because life got…full. In the way it tends to do when you’re raising kids, building something meaningful, and trying to keep the house from quietly falling apart around you.
There were stories I thought about sharing.
Lessons I wanted to write down.
Moments I mentally bookmarked.
But the writing didn’t happen. My brain literally had no words to put down.
And instead of forcing it, I let myself step back. I realized that the words I would have shared would have been forced, not my own, and probably of lower quality than I would like.
Lately, though, I’ve felt that familiar pull again. The one that says, “Hey, there’s something here worth sharing.”
So here I am.
Not with a perfectly planned series or a polished idea, but with a desire to return to what this space has always been about: noticing the small things, choosing less where we can, and finding a little more peace in the middle of real life.
Because even in the quiet, life didn’t stop.
There have been some behind the scenes health things for me that have gently (or not so gently) reminded me to slow down, whether I want to or not. To ask for help even when my ego has demanded that I push through on my own. I’ve been learning to listen a little more closely, to rest without earning it, and to loosen my grip on what I thought I needed to keep up with. The crumbs on the floor have been the hardest for me to look at.
We’ve kept going with homeschooling, maintaining our rhythms as best we can, adjusting when needed, and leaning into the kind of learning that doesn’t always show up on paper but shows up in who our kids are becoming.
In the margins of the day, I’ve been creating.
Working with my hands has become one of the most grounding parts of this season. I took a small space in our laundry room and converted it into the workshop of my dreams. It’s a blend between a cozy hobbit hole and a Pinterest-worthy pin. And it’s all mine. A special spot to retreat to for my work that has made creating even easier and more fun.
I’ve been making custom pieces for homes, simple, beautiful things meant to be used and loved. Custom candles for realtors or even a bachelorette party gift. Soap that is cut and cured over weeks. Balms made in small batches, with care. Even bug repellent!
Nothing rushed. (You can’t when you’re in the soap business, it’s too finicky!)
Not mass-produced. (It’s just me over here!)
Just thoughtful work, created in the middle of real life, usually with some small fingerprints on the final results, thanks to my little helpers.
I’ve been learning, too.
Refining recipes.
Fixing mistakes.
Trying again.
Figuring out what it looks like to build something meaningful without letting it take over everything else.
It hasn’t been loud or flashy. But it’s been good.
I realized this is exactly the kind of life I want to write about. Not a perfect one. Not a fully optimized one. Just a real one, where we’re paying attention, making small changes, creating things at home that have simple ingredients and fewer chemicals, and choosing what matters again and again.
If you’ve been in a quiet season too, or one that feels slower, heavier, or just different than you expected, you’re not alone in that.
Maybe nothing has gone wrong.
Maybe this is just part of the rhythm.
If you’ve been following along with some of the things I’ve been creating in this season, or if you’re simply drawn to simple, thoughtful pieces for your home, you can find my small-batch work here:
Thank you for being here, in this space and in this season. It means more than you know.
XO,
Jenna
